At the ECHR, Metropolitan Onuphry will have an “ironclad” case – Bondarenko

Political analyst Kostiantyn Bondarenko said in an interview with Oleksandr Shelest that after Zelensky stripped the UOC Primate of his citizenship, Metropolitan Onuphry would have “ironclad” grounds in the European Court of Human Rights if he appeals there.

“Onuphry will try to resolve the issue through the courts. If the Ukrainian courts reject him, he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, the ECHR, and there he will have ironclad grounds to prove he is right. There’s no doubt about that,” Bondarenko said in the interview with Oleksandr Shelest.

According to the political analyst, stripping Metropolitan Onuphry of Ukrainian citizenship violates Article 25 of Ukraine’s Constitution, which prohibits depriving Ukrainian citizens of their citizenship.

Bondarenko also noted that until 1996, dual citizenship was not prohibited in Ukraine, and when the ban was introduced in 2002, the law did not have retroactive force.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Zelensky had stripped His Beatitude Onuphry of his citizenship.
