UOC to host international conference on 1700th anniversary of Nicaea

An international conference dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council will be held in Kyiv.
On October 21, 2025, the XVII Conference “Spiritual and Secular Education: History of Relations – Modernity – Prospects” will take place at the Kyiv Theological Academy with the participation of theologians from various countries. The event is organized by the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The conference is timed to an important historical date – in 2025 the entire Christian world will commemorate the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, held in 325. Participants will focus on the historical circumstances of the Council’s convocation, its dogmatic decisions and canonical decrees, and the relationship between the Church and state authority during the preparation and proceedings of the Council. Special attention will also be given to the study of Ecumenical Councils in Ukrainian theological scholarship, as well as the legacy of the First Ecumenical Council in the contemporary life of the Church.
The conference will be held both in-person and online, in the Ukrainian language. Teachers, scholars, and students of theological and secular institutions in the fields of theology, philosophy, history, and pedagogy are invited to participate. Presentations are limited to 20 minutes. The venue is the Intercession Holosiivo Monastery in Kyiv.
Separate sections will be organized for graduate students and undergraduates, covering all fields of theological study, including Biblical studies, dogmatics, patrology, Church history, and practical theology.
Selected conference materials will be published in the Proceedings of the Kyiv Theological Academy. The deadline for submitting papers to the organizing committee for publication is October 10, 2025. Organizers will provide food and accommodation for participants during the conference.
