Lviv authorities to allocate UAH 300,000 for UGCC church damaged by shelling

The Church of Saints Olga and Elizabeth of the UGCC on Kropyvnytskyi Square in Lviv will receive budget funding for the restoration of stained glass windows, reports the press service of the Lviv City Council.

The decision to allocate funds was made by the executive committee of the City Council on February 18, 2026.

It is noted that the church needs to restore 15 sections of stained glass windows with a total area of about 3 m², damaged as a result of a missile strike on January 15. The cost of the work will be approximately 300 thousand hryvnias.

Head of the Galician District Administration Halyna Hladiak noted that city hall specialists together with the church rector took into account all the damage and prepared technical documentation.

City Council Business Manager Yevheniy Boiko stated that the municipality consistently helps religious communities in restoring damaged facilities. According to him, similar assistance was previously provided to the Uniate church on Maksymovych Street, where windows and roofing elements were replaced after the attack.

'We are all in the same conditions and must help each other. Religious communities are of special attention to us, because this is a union of people, and they need help," the official said.

As the UOJ reported, on April 6, 2023, by decision of the city authorities, they demolished with an excavator the church of the Volodymyr community of the UOC. Municipal workers also cut down with a chainsaw the cross that stood by the church, and gave church property to OCU representatives.
