Middle East Council of Churches calls for protection of Christians in the region

On March 5, 2026, the Middle East Council of Churches issued a statement calling on the international community to urgently protect Christians and increase humanitarian assistance to the region amid the escalating crisis in the Middle East, Orthodoxia News Agency reported.
The council said the humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly, particularly in Lebanon, where thousands of people are living in fear and lack basic security. According to the organization, many families have been forced to leave their homes due to destruction and ongoing hostilities.
“Thousands of families urgently need assistance today – food, medical support, safe housing, and psychological care,” the Middle East Council of Churches said.
The organization warned that the scale of the crisis already exceeds the capacity of local initiatives and church structures.
“The protection of human life must come first. The suffering of civilians demands immediate solidarity and concrete assistance,” the statement said.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that pastors had prayed with Trump at the White House for the United States and its military.
