UCCRO members tell European Commissioner about Ukraine’s two Maidans

On June 23, 2026, a UCCRO delegation met with European Commissioner Marta Kos in Brussels. During the discussion, the religious leaders stressed that Ukrainian society had determined its course of development through the country’s “two Maidans.”

Members of the delegation stated that Ukraine’s churches and religious organizations are an integral part of civil society and therefore fully support the country’s accession to the European Union.

Marta Kos welcomed the religious leaders and spoke about the opening of the first negotiating cluster between the EU and Ukraine. She emphasized the importance of combating propaganda in candidate countries and praised Ukraine’s efforts to implement reforms during wartime. The parties also discussed the role of religious communities in the “consolidation of society” and prospects for cooperation in post-war reconstruction.

The delegation included OCU head Epifaniy Dumenko, Yevstratiy Zoria, head of the UGCC Department for External Relations Oleksa Petriv, and Roman Catholic bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi.

At the conclusion of the meeting, UCCRO representatives presented the European Commissioner with a commemorative medal issued to mark the organization’s 30th anniversary.

Earlier, members of the UCCRO delegation had also called for Ukraine’s admission to the EU during a meeting with European experts and religious leaders in Brussels.
