Metropolitan of Constantinople Church consecrates naval base in Crete

On August 10, 2026, Metropolitan Titus of Kydonia and Apokoronas, a hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, visited the naval base of Crete and performed a rite of consecration there, writes the Orthodoxia News Agency.
It is reported that the visit took place at the invitation of the commander of the naval base of Crete. Metropolitan Titus performed the rite of water blessing (agiasmos) and offered prayers for the protection of the officers, sailors, and civilian personnel of the base. In his address, the hierarch reminded those present of the beginning of the Dormition Fast and called on them to spend these days in prayer.
The Metropolitan presented the base commander with an icon of the Mother of God Portaitissa from the Athonite Iveron Monastery, wishing that the Mother of God would shelter and protect the base personnel.
As the UOJ reported, the Greek opposition demands the revocation of the Crete Metropolitans Election Law.
