Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov said the concept of the “Russian World” does not apply to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and that the monastery remains a shrine beyond politics. He posted a video of his remarks on Facebook.
Asked by a journalist to what extent the “Russian World” had already left the Lavra, Budanov replied that the “Russian World” and the Lavra are completely different things.
“This is the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. It has always been an Orthodox shrine, and it remains one. There can be no politics in such things. And no ‘Russian World,’” the official said.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that at celebrations marking the 975th anniversary of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the OCU head said that thanks to Zelensky, the Lavra was breaking free from the shackles of the “Russian World.”
