On August 29, 2026, the Odesa Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church held a charitable event during which 1,000 backpacks with school supplies were distributed to children, reports the press service of the Odesa Eparchy.
The event was held with the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel of Odesa and Izmail. The gifts were received by children from large families, low-income families, as well as internally displaced persons and military personnel.
The eparchy noted that it was possible to gather and deliver everything necessary to the children thanks to the support of caring individuals. The Odesa Eparchy expressed gratitude to all who joined the initiative and helped bring joy to children on the eve of September 1. The organizers emphasized that such events are held for the sake of the country's future and the children who are growing up in the difficult conditions of war.
As the UOJ reported, the Odesa Eparchy of the UOC previously opened a hotline for those affected by shelling.
