UGCC reps gift Pope with embroidered Ukrainian shirt

Representatives of the UGCC presented Pope Leo XIV with a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt (vyshyvanka – Ed.) featuring a map of all regions of Ukraine. The meeting took place at the Vatican at the end of the Pope’s general audience. The UGCC delegation was led by Bishop Bryan Bayda, head of its Youth Commission, and his deputy, cleric Roman Demush.

The Uniate representatives asked the head of the Vatican for his prayers and presented him with gifts. In addition to the embroidered shirt, they gave Pope Leo XIV a book containing photographs of the war.

“Ukraine, its young people and its pain are seen and heard,” Fr. Roman Demush said, commenting on the meeting with the Pope. According to him, it was important to tell the pontiff about young Ukrainians who, because of the war, have ended up in various European countries, and to ask for prayers for peace.

As previously reported by the UOJ, authorities in the Lviv region called on Zelensky to invite the Pope to Ukraine.
